How to stick to nutrition plan?

HOW TO STICK TO A NUTRITION PLAN WITH A BUSY SCHEDULE?

Whether you’re a parent, working full time, a university student living outside the home, or a full time student with various after school commitments here are some tips for following your meal plan when you are busy. It’s all about being efficient.

Even if you work the typical 9 – 5 job and have a busy social life, you need to prepare for it. Preparing for things such as daily meals, timing when you can eat, and planning snacks in between. Following your nutrition plan is a lot easier when you plan ahead and your meals are ready for you.

Preparing your meals for the week ahead can help you get one step closer to your long term goal, particularly on weeks when you are busy. Having a plan in place will help you prioritise your meals and not let you fall back into bad habits.

Meal Preparation:

If you have a busy week coming up, plan for it! Cook all your meals during the weekend so that they are all ready for the upcoming week. This is a popular choice for the majority of people because they don’t have to stress about what they are going to eat and when they’re going to squeeze it in their busy schedule. Once you have cooked all your meals you can plan them into your day as you know they’re there waiting for you. This can be financially beneficial as well, as buying in bulk often means you save money.

Planning when you can have your meals:

If all your meals are cooked and ready, start to think about when you can fit them in your schedule. Plan 10 – 15 Minutes in your diary for each meal, then you can’t go wrong and resort back to bad eating habits. Another good solution to timing your meals is having a good routine, week in week out.

This will include having a set time in which you eat each meal of the day and also specific times in which you can have your planned snacks. This will allow your body to function in a healthy way whilst also training your body up to eat at certain times, meaning you are less likely to indulge in unhealthy foods throughout the day.

Skipping Meals:

Too busy for breakfast? Make sure you don’t skip any of your meals throughout the day because each meal counts. Eat a meal you have prepared or a healthy snack because its important to maintain a healthy lifestyle. A good solution to it all is protein bars and shakes.

A good snack you could use as a ‘pick-me-up’ include fibre rich fruits, for example, berries or apples. Pair these with proteins or low-fat yogurt, you can also add in nuts. If you’re on the go and needing an energy boost, there are many simple but healthy (and tasty!) snacks you can enjoy.

Keeping Hydrated:

Keep hydrated throughout the day by drinking water.

If you’re like the rest of the population, you probably aren’t drinking enough! When you have a busy schedule, it’s easy to forget, especially if you don’t plan ahead. The average person needs about 8-10 cups of water a day, and that will only increase if you factor in heat or exercise.

If you’re feeling hungry between meals or snacks, try drinking a glass of water and see if that helps. When you are bored and you want to reach for a snack, grab your water bottle instead. Before starting a meal, drink a glass of water. This will ensure that you only eat when you are actually hungry.

Drinking the right amount of water boosts your metabolism and helps the body properly break down food. Headaches and migraines are often caused by dehydration. People don’t understand the importance of drinking water. Make sure you stay hydrated.
